An Architect Creating Ceramics
Maloli Ceramics is an artisan pottery studio based in Dnipro, a city in central Ukraine.
My name is Alexey Maloli, and my journey into ceramics began after a decade of experience in architecture, interior, and object design. The compelling desire to create and bring ideas to life, once expressed through buildings and their unique spaces, now finds its form in distinctive ceramic pieces that blend contemporary and traditional aesthetics.
Transmitting States Through Form
In my work, I strive to convey moods and feelings primarily through form, minimalist decoration, and, most importantly, the tactile experience.
Deep Dive into Glaze Chemistry
This focus is why a hallmark of my craft is a deep dive into the chemistry of glazes, harnessing the vast possibilities this exploration offers.
I personally develop and mix every glaze and coating. These formulas are continually refined and improved, shaping a unique author’s style and an appearance for my pieces that simply cannot be replicated with “off-the-shelf” glazes.
The Pursuit of Perfection
I place paramount importance on the safety and stability of my glazes, ensuring their suitability for food contact.
Each formula undergoes rigorous specialized testing for leaching, thermal shock, and other critical factors. By exclusively using high-fired clays like stoneware and porcelain (fired at 1230°C / 2246°F and above), which boast low to near-zero water absorption, I create ceramics that are not only beautiful but also durable and safe for everyday use.
From Teaware to Interior Art
While my passion extends to a variety of forms, I have a special affinity for creating functional tableware, particularly pieces for tea culture—drawing inspiration from both Chinese and Japanese traditions.
Beyond tableware, I also craft larger interior items, vases, and other unique objects designed to bring a touch of handmade artistry to any space. Collaborations with several talented local artists further enrich the aesthetic and thematic range of Maloli Ceramics.
